Recovery, Identity, Self-Acceptance and Empowerment
Who is the program for?
The Recovery, Identity, Self-Acceptance and Empowerment (RISE) program is RISE is a specialised program consisting of three seven-week modules that is designed to support participants to develop new insights into the impact of past adversities on their current mental health, wellbeing, and functioning.
How will it help me?
Trauma-informed practice is a strength-based approach built on five key principles: safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and respect for diversity. Trauma often leads to feelings of helplessness, isolation, and loss of control, while recovery allows a person to live in the present without being overwhelmed by past experiences. It also helps them build meaningful connections with themselves, others, and the world.
Just as negative experiences shape the brain, positive and supportive experiences can create new, healthier pathways. Research shows that practicing mindful awareness helps rewire the brain, making it easier to manage stress. By strengthening the rational, resilient part of the brain, people can respond more flexibly and effectively to situations that once triggered negative reactions.
RISE goes beyond symptom relief—it focuses on personal growth, resilience, and overall well-being. The program helps participants understand how their past influences their present, develop a stronger sense of self, and build meaningful relationships. Recognizing that recovery is different for everyone, RISE aims to reduce suffering, increase psychological flexibility, and encourage actions aligned with personal values. It also fosters self-compassion, reduces shame and guilt, and promotes deeper connections with others.
RISE Modules:
- Module One - “Understanding Adversity” focuses on psychoeducation of neurobiology and neuroplasticity, post-traumatic growth, the importance of attachment experiences and how they impact adulthood, how unmet emotional needs develop into early maladaptive schemas, and how these drive unhelpful coping responses.
- Module Two - “Developing Sense of Self” assists participants to understand the components that make up sense of self and learn how to build their ideal self-image. It also focuses on identifying values, strengths, and preferences, and emphasises the importance of psychological flexibility and workable action to reduce avoidance and suffering.
- Module Three - “Strengthening Connection and Resilience” offers compassionate and effective strategies for moving forward in self-acceptance. It focuses on reducing shame which in known to unravel connection and explores how the concept of connection is underpinned by courage, trust, and vulnerability.
