Fast access to mental health admissions across Victoria

The Priority Admission Service (PAS) gives you fast access to mental health inpatient treatments and beds available across Healthscope’s network of hospitals.

Staffed by mental health clinicians, PAS enables patients, families and carers to quickly and easily find the right mental health inpatient program or inpatient admission in the right location for them or for their loved one.

PAS currently operates in Victoria incorporating over 400 mental health beds across 4 Healthscope hospitals including The Melbourne Clinic (Richmond), The Victoria Clinic (Prahran), The Geelong Clinic (Geelong) and Northpark Private Hospital (Bundoora).

Healthscope is a private mental health service provider. You may be able to access our services through your private health insurance provider or through self-funding.

What mental health conditions does the Priority Admission Service cover?

We offer admission for a range of mental health conditions, some with dedicated inpatient programs. Admissions are generally available for:

  • Anxiety
  • Addictive behaviours and medical detoxification
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Eating Disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Perinatal mental health
  • Personality Disorders
  • Trauma and PTSD

How does the Priority Admission Service work?

Your call will be answered by a mental health clinician. To understand what support you may need, this person will ask you a few questions and collect your contact details.

This information is then provided to an intake team at a Healthscope hospital located near you. In the case where a program or a bed isn’t available, you may be directed to another location.

As this is a fast track service, your call to PAS will be prioritised. Within 4 business hours of speaking with our PAS team, the intake team will contact you to discuss your situation in more detail and provide you with next steps.

Please note that the Priority Admission Service does not provide diagnosis or assessments.

How much does the service cost?

As a private mental health facility, your treatment costs may be reimbursed by all major private health funds. Our team will check with your private health insurance provider before you are admitted to hospital. You may be eligible to update your cover to access higher benefits for psychiatric care in a private hospital. Other funding options including self-funding are also available. Please speak with our intake team who are happy to answer any questions.

Do I need a referral to the Priority Admission Service?

No, you do not need a GP referral to access PAS.

However, to be admitted to one of our inpatient programs you’ll need to see a GP first. The intake team will be able to advise you on this process.
